This summer I took on the task of preparing and presenting a webinar through IDA Ontario on structured literacy in the kindergarten classroom, and I shared 5 key changes that I made to my program that resulted in all kids leaving kindergarten as readers.
The webinar video is available here.
The slideshow, full of links to resources and activities, is here.
More than 2200 people registered for the session, with close to 1000 joining live on their holidays which shows the great interest teachers have in this subject, and in making the shift to embrace the recommendations of the OHRC’s Right to Read inquiry. Speaking of the OHRC, Chief Commissioner Patricia DeGuire was a surprise special guest to open the webinar, and had great insight to share about how learning to read really is a right for ALL children.
Thanks to IDA Ontario for all of their work to bring this idea to reality!
