Christmas has arrived at the Winn house!

Last year when I put my decorations away (right after breakfast on Boxing Day; yes I have issues) I made an extra effort to organize them by room, to make this year’s decorating even easier.

First, I pulled out my “downstairs” bin. I put a few “rustic snowman” touches in the bathroom, some faux greenery with lights on the window ledge, and then focused on the mantel. The fireplace corner is one of my favourite places in our home, even more so at Christmastime.

I have a new addition for the bottom of the stairs this year: a great canvas from Posterjack. I knew I wanted something “arty” (rather than a photo of my own) and I was amazed by the huge selection you can choose from in the Art Shop on Posterjack’s website. There were almost too many options when I searched “Christmas”! I settled on this beautiful ornament shot, which looks so festive hanging on the wall. {Insider note: the first background isn’t my wall, but some amazing photo background paper I purchased to show off products. I love it!}

Next, I moved upstairs. I have been really streamlining my decorations over the past couple of years, and since we’re renovating in the new year I’m looking at every item with a critical eye: do I want to keep this? Will it still work next year?

I still love putting out old family Christmas photos (all the way back to one of my brother and I on Santa’s lap!), and this year I added a Posterjack metal print to the collection as well. It’s so neat how they can print your uploaded photo right onto the metal (which is super thin, as you can see below), and you just add a stand or hanger for display purposes as you wish. It’s our tradition every year to have a Christmas Eve family photo taken on my parents’ couch, so I chose last year’s for this new piece of Christmas decor.

Another decorating tip: last year I also took photos of where things were placed, making it even easier this time around. I handed my phone to the girls this weekend and gave them the instruction to set up the dining room buffet and hutch following last year’ picture – and they loved doing it! (P.S. This piece of furniture will be white by next Christmas…I’m so excited!)

I seem to have a thing for wreaths, with the colourful one going outside on the front door (I think it works well with the black door and red brick) and the more metallic style in the kitchen. By next Christmas we will have a whole new colour scheme upstairs (complete with a new kitchen, flooring, furniture, paint…I’m getting ahead of myself here, but you’re going to want to stay tuned for all of the reno details!) but I think this wreath will still pass the test.
