This will be the final chapter of the story that I This will be the final chapter of the story that I share for now - I return to work in 10 days! Down the line there will be more updates I’m sure, but I’m wrapping up this part of the series with the extremely important topic of mental health, and another very personal post. (link in bio)
Flashback Friday: pre-reno, during the days of the Flashback Friday: pre-reno, during the days of the “Eva’s Kitchen” video series, produced and directed by Olivia. “Any advice for young cooks?” asks Liv. “Have fun with it,” replies Eva, “and don’t be surprised if it doesn’t turn out the way you expect!” Words to live by.
New on the blog (link in bio) I’m providing an u New on the blog (link in bio) I’m providing an update on the last few weeks of this journey. Things are really looking up!
It’s been years since I had my own school photo It’s been years since I had my own school photo taken! Usually I’m in the group photo with the class (and one with staff), but for COVID reasons this year the class photos are being done as composites of individual shots. I missed the first picture day as it was right after my surgery, but I managed to sneak in quickly on retake day, on my way to radiation. I will always remember this as the only day of my career that I entered the workplace braless.

(The company provided cute bookmarks to staff with their photo on them too...when I saw mine, I thought that I’d much prefer to have my kids’ photos on bookmarks than my own face...which gave me the idea to pass them along to my parents!)
I’m excited to announce that I have been appoint I’m excited to announce that I have been appointed as a trustee on the Kawartha Lakes Public Library Board of Directors. You all know how much I advocate for the library, both as an avid personal user and a teacher with a passion for literacy. I see public libraries as important agents of equity, and @kawarthalibrary has done an incredible job adapting with the times and pivoting to support the community throughout COVID. (They’ve also eliminated late fines - such a great move.)

Libraries aren’t just about book loans anymore (though they’re still my favourite part) - for example ours offers maker kits for kids, story walks at a local park and (pre-COVID) fantastic educational programs onsite...and that’s just some of the children’s offerings! I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to learn even more about the workings of the Kawartha Lakes Public Library and as always I will keep you informed! If you haven’t looked into your local library lately you should do it - I think you’ll be impressed!
I’m missing out on the rare experience of spendi I’m missing out on the rare experience of spending St. Patrick’s Day in the classroom but I got in on the team shirts! (And of course I’m wearing my Waterford Crystal earrings!) Wishing you all the luck of the Irish today!
I did it!!! Last radiation treatment done and I am I did it!!! Last radiation treatment done and I am going with the assumption that any rogue cancer cells have been zapped! I’m definitely red and the effects will still continue for a week or two before the healing process begins but I’m not complaining as I’ve heard many horror stories and feel so fortunate to have had the experience I did.

If you check out the second photo you’ll see the little companion who was with me in every single session. My mother-in-law was an extremely religious woman who often wrote to the Sisters of the Precious Blood for prayers. My husband’s sisters decided to keep her spirit alive and wrote requesting prayers and a St. Peregrine (patron saint of cancer) medal for me, which I kept in my pocket during each treatment, and which will always be special as it feels like my mother-in-law is with me too.

There will be a full write-up on the radiation experience soon on the blog, once I can actually conclude it with an update on how things have healed!

Thanks to the kind chauffeurs I had through this process, the wonderful radiation team at PRHC (they’ll be receiving a little token of my appreciation from @couturecandy.ptbo later today) and all of you for your continued support. You have given me strength to keep going, and to keep telling my story.
When someone we care about is struggling (with can When someone we care about is struggling (with cancer or anything else) it’s hard to know how to help. Today on the blog (link in bio) I’m sharing a list of ideas of gestures and gifts that I’ve given, received or simply recommend.

I’d love to hear your ideas - what have others done for you that made a difference at a difficult time? What are your go-to gifts (including gifts of time or effort) to give? Please leave a comment!
