As regular followers know, I’ve been making an effort lately to try to reduce the waste coming out of my home and classroom, and in my quest I have come across a great company to share with you: Unwrapped Life. I first saw them in a Facebook post from Jillian Harris, where she shared a discount code that I jumped on so I could try them out.
Unwrapped Life was started by two Canadian women who wanted to do something to cut back on single-use plastics, and they decided to start with shampoo and conditioner. They weren’t happy with solid bars already on the market, so they created their own!
I have tried a few environmentally-friendly shampoos in the past, and was not impressed – I know shampoo doesn’t have to lather to work, but for some reason I need that lather! I also want everything to rinse out completely, a quality that many products lack.
Enter Unwrapped Life: not only do their products come with minimal, waste-free packaging, but THEY WORK!
I ordered a travel set (meaning they came with reusable travel tins) of shampoo and conditioner bars called “The Stimulator”, designed for oily and thin hair, and I also nabbed a #brunchgoals soap/shaving bar.
Delivery was quick, and I was very impressed by the minimal, recycled kraft paper packaging (especially compared to some of the other online shopping parcels that have arrived at my home) and appearance of the products.
As for performance: the shampoo lathers (yay!) and cleanses well, the conditioner softens my hair, and everything rinses out beautifully – no build-up or residue. As for the shaving bar, I haven’t touched my can of shaving cream since my Unwrapped Life items hit my shower. I’m letting the girls use up all of the other shampoo, conditioner and shaving cream containers we have on the go (it would be even more wasteful to just chuck them out!) and then I will be converting them as well – and I am hoping the timing of this transition will coincide with Christmas!
In terms of longevity, Unwrapped Life shampoo bars typically last as long as 2 or 3 bottles of liquid shampoo, and at a regular price of $16-17 that’s not a bad investment at all. (Why pay full price though? Watch for a sale or discount code!)
Another neat fact about Unwrapped Life: they don’t accept returns! Their explanation:
The environmental impact of reverse shipping creates over 5 billion pounds of landfill waste annually, and results in 5 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions (yes, really!). We ask that you, our customers, use what you have, buy only what you need and ask lots of questions before making a purchase.
Speaking of questions, when I messaged on social media to ask something before I committed to my purchase, I received a super quick response, which helped make my decision – not only because I got the answer I wanted, but because of their excellent customer service.
In addition to their line of personal care items for women, they have baby/kids’ products and home items like wool dryer balls and stainless steel straws too – and they offer FREE shipping in Canada and the US when you spend over $75.
If you’re looking to reduce plastics/waste in your home, or even if that’s not a priority for you, and you just want some high-quality products from a Canadian company, I would definitely recommend Unwrapped Life.
