Would you be surprised to learn that I have never owned a stand mixer? A hand mixer, yes, but I have never baked enough to warrant purchasing the stand variety, especially when I assumed that they were all super expensive.

I was excited, therefore, when I was offered a Hamilton Beach Classic Hand/Stand Mixer (and even though mine was free, I was also impressed to find out that it only retails for around $80!)

Eva, of course, was also thrilled and we quickly Googled some recipes that call for stand mixers – don’t you love how you can Google anything these days? We chose a yummy-looking “Thick and Chewy Better Than the Boxed Brownies” recipe from the Life Made Simple blog. (I may have included “chocolate” as one of my search terms!)

The Hand/Stand Mixer was easy to set up for the first time (it just took a couple of minutes), and comes with the following features:

  • Powerful 290 Watt motor
  • 6 speeds with a QuickBurst™ button
  • Slower first speed for stirring in ingredients with no splashing
  • Unique multi-position bowl (to mix both the middle and the edges)
  • Traditional beaters, wire beaters and whisk
  • Detachable mixing head, doubles as a hand mixer
  • Deluxe 4 qt. stainless steel bowl
  • Bowl Rest™ mixer stabilizer when used as a hand mixer
  • Cord wrap

The stand mixer worked perfectly for our recipe, first mixing the wet ingredients, and then incorporating the dry ingredients smoothly (no clumps). The chocolate chips and chunks were stirred in by hand at the end!

While I would have been happy to eat this batter (I know, don’t eat raw eggs – it just looks so good!) we popped it in the oven and ended up with perfect, chewy brownies.

Looking for more recipe ideas? The Hamilton Beach Canada site has lots, and you can even filter by meal type, ingredients, occasion and appliance type (hand and/or stand mixer options include Spring Bloom Cupcakes, Fresh Strawberry Cake, Carrot Cake and Slow Cooker Overnight Cinnamon Rolls – they’re next on our list!)

Disclosure: I was provided with the item described above for review purposes. Opinions are, as always, my own.
