Before this month, I don’t think I had ever listened to a full podcast episode, but I had been hearing about them so much that I decided to ask my Facebook followers for suggestions and gives some a try (while walking, working on the computer or puttering around the house!) Here’s a quick list of my favourites, in no particular order!

(By the way, so far I have been mostly visiting the websites and clicking links to listen to the podcasts there, but most podcast listeners use an app like iTunes or Spotify to tune in.)

1. Sorta Awesome

“Sorta Awesome is a weekly podcast geared toward women who want to stay current on all things awesome, including culture, media, trending conversations and general girlfriend chat.”

Episode I enjoyed: Freedom of the Don’t List (#79), which includes a fun discussion of items that the hosts don’t feel the need to include on their regular to-do-lists

2. Happier with Gretchen Rubin

Gretchen (author of The Four TendenciesBetter Than BeforeThe Happiness Project, and Happier at Home – all of which I LOVED) hosts this award-winning weekly show with her sister, Elizabeth Craft where they focus on good habits and happiness.

Episode I enjoyed: Ask Us Anything (#100) – though I have to say I am what Gretchen would classify as a “completist”, and I have now gone back to #1 and I’m working my way through the whole collection!

3. Happier in Hollywood

The same Liz Craft who co-hosts the above podcast with her sister shares this spinoff with her Hollywood writing partner Sarah Fain. I love all the inside info about being television writers in Hollywood, right down to their celebrity sightings!

Episode I enjoyed: Picking a New Work Mantra (#1). As the new school year approaches, I’m trying to choose one for myself!

4. AnthroDish with Sarah Duignan

This is a weekly podcast about food, identity and culture hosted by a PhD candidate who’s specializing in the anthropology of health. “Somehow despite always being fascinated by food and nutrition, her research tends to steer away from that and more on big picture health… so that might be why this podcast exists.”

Episode I enjoyed: A Medical Take on Diet Culture and Nutrition (#6), where Dr. Beth Jolley, a medical resident, discusses her experiences as a young doctor, particularly related to nutrition and diet.

5. Rise with Rachel Hollis

“Hosted by Mogul CEO Rachel Hollis. A bold conversation that provides the listener with real life tangible takeaways. It’s the perfect balance of loving encouragement and straight-up kicking your butt!” (This one’s perfect for the entrepreneur/businesswoman.)

Episode I enjoyed: Do These 5 Things Every Single Day to Change Your Life

6. Malcolm Gladwell’s Revisionist History

Each week the host “goes back and reinterprets something from the past: an event, a person, an idea. Something overlooked. Something misunderstood”

Episode I enjoyed: The King of Tears – Why country music makes you cry, and rock and roll doesn’t: A musical interpretation of divided America. I feel smarter and better informed after listening to this podcast.

7. Do It Scared with Ruth Soukup

This podcast, hosted by another author I love (Living Well, Spending Less and Unstuffed: Decluttering Your Home, Mind and Soul) “is about taking steps to move past our fear and create a life we love. It is equal parts inspiration and tough love, complete with practical, easy-to-implement tips and interviews with some incredible authors, influencers, and people who have dared to do it scared in their own lives.”

Episode I enjoyed: How to Break Down Your Big Goals into a Plan That Works.
