According to a Netflix survey, over half (58%) of Canadian moms admit to sneaking in TV “me-time” while juggling a busy schedule, with some even hiding from their kids for just a moment of peace. With moms doing it anywhere and everywhere in the neighbourhood when the kids aren’t around, sneaking is the new bingeing.
I can definitely relate to the #MomSneak taking place at the gym. While I work out at home, I’ve always been motivated by TV on the treadmill, and with Netflix I have my favourite shows and movies right at my fingertips. In the last couple of months I’ve watched the new seasons of House of Cards, Homeland, and half of Suits (so far), many of those while working out. When in the mood for comedy, I’ve also been making my way through my favourite series of all time, Friends. (I’m almost at Season 10) which is playing right now while I work on this post on the treadmill!
I am thrilled to be at a phase where my girls are old enough that I can tell them straight out: “I’m watching a show that’s not for kids – go play somewhere else!”, but I still have to be careful when I have the volume up high while I’m on the treadmill! Little ears are always listening! I’m actually excited about the fact that there are more and more shows and movies we can enjoy together…though I’ll never give up that time to myself as well!
With the current portability of screens, many moms have said they sneak Netflix time while in the washroom or waiting in carpool lines or parking lots as well. The survey also shows that moms are feeling less stressed and more refreshed and 16% say it makes them feel like a better parent by sneaking “me-time.” I’ve always asserted that moms need time to themselves and to pursue their own hobbies and interests in order to be the best possible parents, and for those like me who love their TV this is a perfect way to refresh.
Where do you sneak your stream time? And what shows are you loving these days?
