Now that the big items are in place, it’s time to accessorize! I knew the space needed some personalization, and fortunately our designer, Meredith Kirk, was on the same page. When I asked her what she was thinking for the large wall above the sectional, her vision was clear: a large mirror to reflect the light from the dining room chandelier, with two frames on either side (art or photos).

As soon as I heard “photos”, I reached out to Posterjack. I’ve worked with them several times before (canvases, framed canvases, metal prints, etc.), and their products and service are excellent.

I decided to go with black and white photos to unify the space, and after narrowing down some of my favourites, I asked the girls to help me make the final selection.

We settled on one of my husband and me in Nashville, one of him with the girls on the local Trestle Bridge, a shot of the girls and me on a trip to Kingston, and the two kids holding hands and running through our lawn when they were much younger. Of course photos can always be changed up, and as high-quality as these prints are, I’m sure they won’t stay forever.

The frames, though, are keepers. I thought Posterjack’s barnwood frame option would work perfectly in a “Farmhouse Glam” house, and went with the soft grey colour (they also have charcoal black and rustic brown). I couldn’t be more thrilled with how they turned out…or how quickly they arrived!

Meredith advised us to hang the mirror so that the middle was at eye level (approximately 60″ from the floor), and then place the frames on either side so the top and bottom of each pair lined up with the mirror. Now, I’m not sure if she knows me really well or if she just thought symmetry would work in this space, but I love it. That said, I have seen some gorgeous asymmetrical gallery walls which include photos and art in frames of different sizes, mirrors, signs, etc. There’s no one right way to do it!

In case you’re wondering, the mirror is from Winners, and I love how the mirrored frame is nice and clean, while the beaded touches work with other elements in the home.

This post would not be complete without a shout-out to my father for his gallery wall assistance – and my mom, for a great picture-hanging trick: using Command Picture Hanging Strips. No holes in the walls, and so much easier to line things up!
