We celebrated our school’s 4th annual Wigs For Kids Hair Donation Day and it was another huge success!

Seven generous girls between Grades 2 and 6 donated their ponytails – a great number of participants considering the size of our small (but mighty) school, and the fact that many of our students have already given in the previous three years. We actually had a couple of repeat donors this time around!

Here’s a shot of the excited girls pre-cut:

And the after:

The girls got to choose special songs to play during their cuts (Taylor Swift was popular, as well as Rachel Platten’s Fight Song, though believe it or not one of the little ones picked Johnny Cash), and they also chose who wielded the scissors. There were moms, dads, a brother, a cousin, a teacher and a family friend facing her third bout of cancer. (Few dry eyes at that point.)

All of the hair is being sent to Continental Hair in Toronto for their Wigs For Kids program.

To honour these girls for their donations, some kind sponsors offered up some goodies for swag bags, and everything was a huge hit!

Global News provided the bags, frisbees, Crayola colouring packs, sunglasses, and play microphones.

Thanks so much to these thoughtful sponsors, and to the seven girls who made such a huge difference today! We are so proud of them! Along with our student emcees, DJs and tech supporters who made this event happen, our entire student body is pretty incredible. Am I on a teacher high right now? Maybe…but I’ll take it!

    • Yes, we were so proud of them! My younger daughter is growing hers again so she can donate a third time at next year’s event!
