And one more blog hits the net!

Welcome to This Mom Loves, a blog which is designed to share and celebrate the positive in life. Notice I said “designed to”…that’s no guarantee that I won’t venture into “This Mom Vents” (or worse) territory, but the goal is to highlight people, places and products that are worth writing and reading about.

Why a blog? Why, to make the world a better place of course. The truth? Julie and Julia. I’ve always loved writing, and in fact I freelance for parenting and family magazines, but it’s much different to be able to put fingers to keys and share my own thoughts and feelings. I was looking for an outlet, and the movie based on Julia Child and Julie Powell was my sign that a blog was the way to go. It’s a little more motivational to write with the hope that there is an audience out there than it is to scribble in a lined notebook. (Please note: despite the Julie and Julia reference, there will be little talk of cooking. The title of the blog is not “This Mom Abhors”.)

This Mom Loves will explore issues other than parenting, but quite honestly, having children changed my identity (for the better…I think) more than any other life change. My marriage and friendships have been transformed, teaching has changed for me (in philosophy and in practice) and the way I spend my money and time is also very different.

I can’t wait for you to join the discussion. I’ll be asking for reader tips and thoughts, and am welcome to questions. You have the ear of a teacher — anything you want to ask? Are you a new parent who is seeking the (ahem) “expertise” of someone just emerging from the baby trenches?

Take a look around my blog, and I hope you’ll be back again. You’re very welcome!

  1. Hi Kate,
I will definitely be back again! You are a gifted writer and I love how your blog is set up and already enjoy your articles. Well done! Your thoughts and words of wisdom have made me smile and been a great distraction from all my school work. 🙂
    Cheers! AM

  3. This looks like a great blog – I'm a grammy, but I think I'll find some helpful hints on how to spoil my grandchildren!! Keep up the good work!

  4. Hi Kate

Thanks for sharing your blog, I will pass it around to others and come back often. You are a fantastic writer!! I look forward to spending some time exploring all of your articles. Thank you

  5. Kate You are amazing to be able to do it all. That is what women do though isn't it? Busy times. This will be a great outlet from work and life about work and life. ha. I will continue to visit. D

  6. I'm really enjoying following your blog. This is the first time I've ever "followed a blog". I don't even know if I'm using the right words to say that. I do feel like a voyeur in some strange way. And so different from when I sneak into your yard to peek in the basement windows to see what movie you're watching while you fold laundry after you get the kids to bed.
This spying is a nice treat b/c my peeping tom gig is usually on hold in the winter. Too cold out, you guys don't shovel a path to your windows, and you'd notice the footprints.

  7. Oh Joan, you're only saying that because you think I was referring to you in my last post. You aren't my only close female doctor friend with three kids you know! 🙂

  8. I finally had a chance to peruse your blog. It's fantastic! It's funny…I've been a parent for much longer than most of our close peers and family. As the newness of motherhood wears off, I sometimes forget about its awesomeness. Mommyhood is fantastic, isn't it? Thanks for the reminder.
